Cape Town’s notorious Cape Flats is one of the most dangerous urban areas in the world and for children growing up there, gang violence can feel unavoidable. In this deeply immersive film, I follow a brave team of violence interrupters as they attempt to pull young people out of gangs, one life at a time.

Shot over two intense weeks on the ground, Inside Cape Town’s Gang Wars offers rare access to the frontlines of South Africa’s gang crisis including the children risking everything to leave, the families caught in the crossfire, and the community workers trying to stop the bloodshed before it starts.

As filmmaker, I led on story, access, risk management, and compliance working closely with local security and negotiating consent and safeguarding in some of the most volatile conditions I’ve encountered. The film pairs raw, character-led storytelling with intimate, cinematic visuals and was reversioned for BBC News platforms across online, social, radio, and TV broadcast.
